Katrina and Roland dreamed of their wedding for a long time, until finally, celebrating the decade of their relationship, the dream of marriage came true. Since both mostly live in France, when planning their wedding, they wanted to bring a piece of France to Latvia, so they decided on a wedding in lavender gardens - Lavender Villa in Grobinė . Since the wedding was planned outdoors, the young couple was most worried about the possibility of rain. There was no rain, but the wind did blow, literally lifting and carrying the roof (or in this case, the tent) from your head.
Worrying about the rain forgets the wind
"The main thing we were worried about was that it wouldn't rain. The venue had a cabin that was big enough to have a picture wall and an entertainment corner for guests, and this cabin had a beautiful wooden deck that could be put to use.
The hostess offered a celebration tent where we could set up a food table, we had planned everything perfectly.
My husband and I were very worried about whether everything would work out, like everyone who organizes a wedding, we wanted everything to be perfect. We waited for this day for a very long time, we had the feeling that we were in euphoria," recalls Katrina.
The day before the wedding, Katrina and Roland went to the celebration place together with the ushers to complete the rest of the work. "Thinking about the absence of rain, we forgot that other natural phenomena also exist...
We were greeted by a very strong wind, the owners of the place put additional fasteners for the tent. We had to pray to God so that it would subside on the wedding day," the bride remembers the great anxiety. Because of the wind, everything had to be rescheduled - everything that was planned for the wooden terrace was moved to the tent, including all the decorations, the DJ table, snack and drink tables.
“We kept checking the weather forecast for the next day, and there was hope that the wind would calm down. We went to bed with the most beautiful feeling in the world, that very soon we will be a real family - the fulfillment of our dreams," Katrína says.
The wind takes away the tent with everything in it
And then the wedding day came. The morning of the wedding was wonderful, the long-awaited thanks were given, and the couple went to the venue with their guests. Arriving at the place of celebration and seeing the final result, both realized that the decorators had completely understood all the wishes, despite the fact that the entire arrangement had to be changed the day before.
According to the newlyweds, all the stress had disappeared and it seemed that nothing could go wrong. "The wind was still there, but it didn't interfere. While we were waiting for the rest of the guests, those who arrived went to the cottage, enjoyed our wall of pictures, and looked around. The atmosphere was free and relaxed.
But then the most unexpected thing happened - some kind of wind of unknown origin appeared in front of all of us - a whirlwind, which carried away the celebration tent with everything inside it!
Thank God that there were no children there at that moment, and most of the guests were out of the tent. Unfortunately, we did not survive without injuries - when the tent was lifted, the rod hit my brother and his girlfriend. Considering that we were around 60 people, the tent took off relatively successfully. Not even a single decoration was broken," Katrína remembers the dramatic events.
From despair to great gratitude
At that moment, it seemed to both of them that everything was falling apart. Katrina remembers the feelings of that moment - tears, misunderstanding, the question of why their wedding day. "I sit with my head down, I don't look, I just feel everyone coming up and saying that everything is fine. I raise my head and see activity. Such excitement that I will never forget.
Family was no longer family, and friends were no longer friends. It was more, something very beautiful. One big family that didn't get confused, put their thoughts together, held hands and did everything to make my day and Roland's happiest day.
I sat and wept with emotion, someone continued to comfort me, someone comforted Roland. And then I went to Roland, because I realized that everything will be fine, everything will continue!
We both sat together, messed around a bit, got up and did everything not to spoil our wedding day," says Katrina.
Gift of nature – three rainbows
We continued the day as planned. While Roland and I were at the photo session, everyone continued to work together. The restaurant and waitresses also quickly adapted to the situation. Since the party tent was no longer there, everything was brought into the small house, but the ball was held on the wooden terrace.
When we came back from the photo session, we were literally beaming. For everything - for the fact that we had cleared our heads, for the fact that we are with each other and for the fact that we are surrounded by simply the most fantastic people," says the bride excitedly.
"You remind yourself at one point that absolutely nothing in life is more important than life, love and support! We experienced so many different emotions on our wedding day, but in the end it really turned out to be our dream day!
We felt loved and even loved! Of course, we still discuss the events of that day from time to time and the feeling and question never leaves us - why us? But we can't change it anymore. And the rain... it really didn't rain for us, it was raining all around, but mother nature rewarded us with three rainbows," said Katrína and Roland.
