AGNIJA & ARVIS

Youthful confusion, first date and delicious coffee

"Wow, she is beautiful!" - so four years ago - on July 1, 2016, my husband Arvis said to his mother when he saw me. I was working in a cafe in Tukum at that time and I remember that it was a busy day, because we were setting tables for a hockey camp. Arvis himself is from Talsi and at that time his passion and at the same time source of livelihood was selling cars. And that day, he asked his mother if she would like to drive to Tukums and show a potential buyer a car that he probably wouldn't buy anyway. Here, all that remained was to mention - when arriving to Tukuma, the buyer still wanted to buy a car. Arvis and his mother were not ready for this plan. But it's a good thing, because after selling the car, you had to wait at least 2 hours for the next bus going back to Talsi.

Arvja's mom suggested going to a cafe that has very good coffee. And that was the cafe where I worked. Coming up the stairs, Arvis allegedly said to his mother - "wow, she is beautiful!" and mom affirmatively agreed. But being shy, Arvis didn't approach me, but then, thanks to the digital environment, he found me on social networks, and that's how we started swirling into our beautiful story. I remember the feeling after the first date - butterflies in the stomach and the belief that this is the beginning of something beautiful, magical and true!

As the years went by, getting to know each other more and more, falling in love with each other's little things, we realized that we are for each other and that we want to build our lives together.

Sunset, Malta, loneliness and tears of joy - proposal

It was truly magical. Arvis had thought through every detail. The courtship took place in Malta - on August 25, 2019. But the story of how we got there is a bit longer. It was April. I had dug myself into work, was struggling with my bachelor's thesis at the same time and had devoted all my energy just to finish everything on time. Arvis knew how to use this moment - he came up with "homework to help my sister's daughter in England" Arvis found out the size of my ring, i.e. the task was to measure the circumference of each finger before and after physical exercise and observe whether the circumference of any finger has changed or not.

Of course, it didn't even occur to me that this was some kind of "trick" to find out the circumference of my finger. I remember jumping around the house, doing squats, but nothing changed in the circumference of my fingers. I thought - what an interesting task! But, the family must help. And no matter what, Arvis found out which ring size is right for me.

The next step - I was given plane tickets to Malta at the graduation of Arvis University. Even then, I didn't even think about what was "underneath" it all. Happy and happy, I flew to Malta and told my husband on the plane that I would like to go to Malta with him on a date, to a place where there are no other people, only nature, the sun and the two of us. I had found a couple of "secret places" in Malta and showed them to Arvi. It turns out that the place to which we went on "my date" was also the one that Arvis himself had chosen for the proposal. Coincidence?! I don't think so! And so, enjoying the sunset, the mountains, the breathtaking view of the sea and the solitude, Arvis proposed to me.

August 28, 2020. Friday. Our wedding day. Agnija&Arvis Smilgas

Sand, nature, fun and endless love

Already when planning the wedding theme, we both realized that we want a wedding that describes ourselves, something that is only ours, and that's how we came to a theme that couldn't be more personal - if I changed to my husband's surname, which is Smilga, then the wedding should also be through the theme of smilga, including dry grass and the theme of nature and countryside that we love so much. Since we ourselves come from small towns - I from Tukums, Arvis from Talsiem - nature has been with us a lot on a daily basis and we wanted to keep it on the wedding day as well.

From Rose to Smilga... we held the ceremony in a beautiful rose garden Roses , which was significant as the last moment when I transformed from Agnia Rose to Agnia Smilga. The ceremony took place outside - in a white arch near the roses. Decorator Marta had conjured up a fairy tale! We continued the celebration at the guest house Rīteņi , which is located in Ķesterciems near the sea. Here, too, the theme of smilgu was not left out for a moment.

We also tried to include a part of us, and since we are car fans, of course, my husband is a hotter car fan and has driven in a rally with a retro car, so here we placed our own green gigulite as a decoration in the territory of the guest house, which we painstakingly sanded and painted for the nth nights in a row, just to have time to get it in order before the wedding. We wanted the celebration to be fun - and indeed, it was!

We danced until dawn and felt fantastic. Both of us are active by nature, we joke a lot and always came up with some funny joke. We also made the wedding dance as a surprise for the guests - at the beginning we danced the beautiful, lyrical dance and suddenly, as the music stopped, the fast rock-n-roll part started, in which we had a good time.

This was absolutely our dream wedding!
