Photographer: KLAIDS LIELBIKSIS - the atmosphere and feelings of the moment are captured so well that, looking at the pictures, it seems - we are back in Our Day.
Dress: AMELII - the right dress for our boho wedding. Felt fabulous and got lots of compliments. The process of measuring and fitting the dress was also enjoyable due to the excellent service.
Celebration place: GRAVU ŠKĚNIS - great atmosphere, fabulously beautiful nature and the kindest and most helpful hosts.
Caterers: VANILLA CATERING - excellent food and equally excellent service. I received feedback from guests that they have never seen such professional waiters.
MUAH: MARTA ROGA (Liepāja) - it was very important for me that make up and hairstyle were not exaggerated, I wanted to look natural and feel comfortable. Marta understood me completely and I was really very happy with the result.
Ceremony leader: GIRTS ĚESTIS - we did not want to get married in a church, but we felt that the ceremony leader of the registry office was not suitable for us either. We wanted the ceremony to be led by a person who knows how to create a festive feeling, who knows how to find the right words, without getting bogged down in overly romantic and luscious speeches. That's exactly what our ceremony was like - interesting, fun and, of course, also sweet and romantic. Although, of course, we had talked about the big things, we didn't know in advance how the ceremony would go, so it was a pleasant surprise for us too.
Music: EELS OF THE SIXTIES - such a fun party that there was no time to play the scheduled games. The guys charged the whole dance floor with their energy.
Bartender: EDIJS SEDLIņš - fabulous cocktails that friends dream about even now.
Decorations, table setting: ourselves and our super friends.
Initially, we had planned to get married on June 13 - I really wanted the wedding to be during peonies and in Gravu's barn , where it took place. June is a very beautiful time - bushes, apple trees are blooming and the surrounding grain fields are also beautiful. We were preparing for the wedding in June very early, but due to the pandemic, in the spring we were in a situation where everything had already been arranged, the security deposit had been paid, the invitations had been printed, but it was not clear whether it would be allowed to hold such a large event at all.
We both clearly knew that we didn't just want to correspond between the two of us - we both wanted a proper party with families and friends, so there was a real possibility that our long-awaited wedding, which was already fully planned, would have to be postponed to next year. We chose to take a risk and postpone the wedding date to August in the hope that by then the situation will have improved and we will be able to organize larger events. Of course, changing the wedding date so late, we no longer had the option to choose weekends - only weekdays remained available. At first we laughed, who makes a big wedding on a weekday, no one will make it, but in the end, all 75 invited guests came to our wedding on Tuesday. The fact that everyone was longing for a proper, fun party after the long period of isolation and distancing definitely played in our favor. 🙂
August turned out to be just as beautiful in the Gravu barn as June - instead of peonies, we were delighted by the slightly autumnal mood brought by the harvest time in the grain fields and the contrast between a very warm day and a pleasant evening breeze. We chose to celebrate the wedding in Grobiņa district, although none of us is from that side, not even from Kurzeme. It was important to both of us that the place of celebration should have not only beautiful rooms, but also that there should be nature and peace around. I dreamed of a wedding in a beautiful barn, so from the very beginning of the wedding planning I looked specifically for wedding barns. Although at first we were a little afraid that it would be too far, considering that almost all the wedding guests have to travel from Riga, in the end neither the working day nor the distance was an obstacle for our guests. Due to the long distance, we chose to start the solemn wedding ceremony quite late - in the afternoon. It turned out to be a very good decision, because the first half of the day was therefore less stressful, we were able to enjoy it with each other, the guides, and we also managed to take pictures while still being fresh and rested.
We are very glad that the wedding venue we chose was so close to Liepāja. The opportunity to be on a four-wheeler with guides by the sea, a photo session at the northern forts of Liepāja, the wind, tousled hair and complete relaxation was such a fitting addition to our wedding day. That's exactly the atmosphere we wanted at our wedding - even though neither we nor the guests feel like we have to follow a very tight schedule, meet deadlines or manage to fulfill all wedding traditions. We wanted it to be primarily a celebration for both ourselves and our guests, where you can enjoy the beautiful countryside, indulge in dancing and conversation. That's exactly what our wedding was like.
We were pleasantly surprised and very touched by the dance surprise prepared by our guests from the folk dance group in which I danced. We knew that we didn't want a traditional mingling, but some special ritual, but the mingling process was a surprise for us. The members of the dance group suddenly appeared in folk costumes and, showing the way with torches in their hands, led us and the other guests to the bonfire, where they danced a fabulously beautiful dance in the light of the flames, during which I burst into tears. It was a really special moment that we will always remember.
We did a lot for our wedding ourselves. Together with very thoughtful and helpful guides, as well as friends and relatives. The preparation process, although time-consuming and also stressful, was also a very beautiful time, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I happily created designs for the invitations myself, together with the guides and friends we spent long summer evenings in the yard, making decorations, collecting natural materials in the forests and meadows. We learned to braid wreaths, make lamps from reeds and sew cloth napkins. I also embroidered my own wedding day shoes with pearl flowers, because I clearly knew what I wanted them to be. this preparation process, which we spent with family and friends, was as beautiful and memorable for us as the wedding itself. Therefore, lingering in the memories, it feels like our wedding was not a two-day event, but a whole summer full of fun togetherness and beautiful moments.
