Ancient Latvians worshiped nature deities along with fate-makers and fertility gods. One of them was the Sun. The sun is a symbol of eternal movement and life. All seer and knower. The sun gives warmth, thanks to the sun a good harvest can grow. It cares about people. The simplest Sun sign is a circle. The husband of the Sun is the Moon. The simplest Moon sign is a semicircle. For Latvians, the Moon, unlike other nations, is a male deity. In Latvian proverbs, the Moon comes to marry the Sun. The moon, like other inhabitants of Heaven, is assigned its own house and animals.

The concept Sun and Moon arose based on the fact that the Sun cannot do without the Moon and the Moon cannot do without the Sun. They not only crave each other, but also share their love and strength with those around them.

In order to feel the presence of the Sun and the Moon, these two symbols permeated the entire wedding day, starting with the first wedding messengers - the invitations.

The end of the evening or the rite of strengthening the new wife was enhanced by throwing amber dust into the fire so that the round bonfire and the fire connect the Sun and the Moon.
