Northern peoples believe that man and nature are inseparable. The Barkan family has chosen a dragonfly as the symbol of their winery. They are found in the Abava Valley in the form of more than 50 species.
The dragonfly is symbolically entrusted with managing and uniting what comes from the earth, water and air - the symbiosis of the natural resources of the Abava Valley and the spirit of human creativity and craftsmanship. The owners of Abava make others happy by creating drinks, they enjoy the joy of creating drinks themselves - from new ideas to harvesting, cooperating with reliable brand followers, presenting it to traders, sommeliers and judges at international competitions. Thanks to a great team and determination, the amount of drinks produced increases proportionally every year, and we can proudly call ourselves the largest winery in Latvia.
On the banks of the river Abava, there were once the vineyards that grow farthest in the north of Europe. The Abava valley region is a part of the ancient Kurzeme, historically known for its skilled winemaking masters.
Today, passionate winemakers of the new school - the Barkān family, who named their winery after the fertile Abava valley - Abavas, are farming on this side.
