DECORATING TREND AT WEDDINGS – CARPETS

The carpet as a decorative element is currently experiencing its revival, and not in living rooms, but at weddings. They are used both in wedding ceremonies and celebrations, indoors and outdoors. Wedding decorator Dagnija Gaile / Love Letters believes that the carpet is a very successful decoration element, because it occupies a large area, being able to give the room the necessary character and coziness.

LĪGAVĀM offers suggestions on how to successfully incorporate rugs into your wedding decor.

The nature of carpet placement can be a bit chaotic

Dagnija Gaile, while decorating weddings and other events, has noticed that currently carpets have become especially popular in decorating.

"There was a time when events mostly used only disposable floor coverings, which are available in many different shades, but are thin and more functional than decorative. I would like to say that their relevance has decreased significantly, as Persian-style, geometric pattern, Scandinavian design carpets have become much more available, which give the room a specific character.

As always, without getting tired of the story, straight, predictable shapes are no longer relevant at the moment, so the nature of placing rugs is a bit chaotic," says the wedding decorator. She points out that rugs are used in different locations - marking the ceremony location, the table of the new couple, the stage area, the rest or lounge area, the entrance to the event room and elsewhere.

"Since carpets are currently available with different patterns, in different color palettes, they can be very successfully matched to every style and color range," explains Dagnia.

Symbolizes prosperity

The use of carpets in weddings has not only a practical and decorative, but also a symbolic meaning, that is, the path that the bride takes to the groom marks their future life, and the carpet symbolizes that she will be rich, not modest.

Therefore, young couples prefer Persian-style carpets, which symbolize wealth, rather than disposable floor coverings.

As carpets are often handmade, they symbolize the work that the young couple will have to put in to create a successful marriage. On the other hand, those couples who already have children from previous relationships will like the idea of using the carpet at the beginning of the ceremony, when all members of the new family stand together on it.

Using a carpet at a wedding symbolizes the beginning of a new family.

Ideas for using carpets in wedding decoration:

  • Instead of the ceremony - choose to walk towards your loved one along the carpet path. They can be the most diverse - for an elegant wedding, a white carpet or a red carpet will suit, and for a boho-style wedding, Persian-style and geometric patterned carpets. It can also be a mix of different carpets.

  • If the wedding ceremony (or even the celebration) takes place in the open air, for example in the forest, then the carpets will highlight the overall mood perfectly. A rug will add a story to even a wedding in the desert (like from the tale of Aladdin). In addition, if the wedding ceremony takes place in the open air, then the carpet can also be a practical element that will make it easier to move (who doesn't know how unpleasant it is when the new heels sink into the soft ground) and will protect the bride's new shoes.

  • Carpet collage - if you can't choose just one carpet, you can create a whole carpet collage that will look great both at the ceremony site and in the seating area already at the wedding celebration.

  • Carpets will fit particularly well in boho, vintage and beach style weddings, but will also suit industrial, urban and minimalist style weddings. The real decorator will know how to recommend the best decorating options.
