FASHION ARTIST AGNES EIDUKA: THE DRESS IS A MANIFESTO OF FEMININITY

FASHION ARTIST AGNES EIDUKA: THE DRESS IS A MANIFESTO OF FEMININITY

At a time when unisex fashion is becoming more and more popular and it is stylish to hide feminine forms under the current oversized model,

Latvian fashion artist Agnese Eiduka is faithful to her belief, namely that a woman should be feminine - wear a dress, be bright and noticeable.

Nowadays, it often requires daring. Although Agnes' dresses are luxurious, their source of inspiration is quite simple - it is nature - flowers, stones washed by the sea and the smell of the forest at six in the morning.

Līgavām.lv : Tell us how your story began! How did you come to create the costumes?
Agnese : I won't be original, I knew that I wanted to do that since childhood. But it really started during Miss Latvia in 2003 (ed.: Agnese is the winner of Miss Latvia 2003). I had a little black evening dress given to me by my parents, which, as Coco Chanel said, should be in every woman's closet.
However, I realized that it was not enough on stage and decided to apply the knowledge gained in the field of textiles in life. But I still say that I am only a beginner. A beautiful hobby has turned into my everyday life.
L .: Or do you sew yourself?
A. : I have my own team, but there are things - delicate work, embroidery that I do myself.
L. : Why dresses?

A .: The dress is a manifesto of femininity.

L .: Still? Also nowadays?
A .: Yes, in spite of all the unisex fashions... For the last two seasons, I have also created fashions for everyday wear on customer orders. However, those outfits are also quite elegant and by changing a few details, the image changes. You can go to work in the morning, but in the evening, you can go to the opera by pinning, removing or folding something in your outfit.
L .: The outfits you create are always bright, voluminous, eye-catching...

A .: Yes, I want women to dare more nowadays.
L .: Dare to reveal your femininity?
A. : Yes.

L .: Do you pay much attention to fashion trends?
A .: In the past two years, there are some trends in everyday wear collections, but rather it happened unconsciously... I certainly wouldn't want to say that I follow trends. There are classic things - corrugated skirts, fleece skirts, which have been in my collections for years, it seems, since 2006? In my opinion, I created the first such skirt back then, in 2006, for a competition, and that's how they still live in my collections - both in everyday clothes, evening dresses and wedding dresses. Maybe in different versions, in wedding dresses - with longer legs...
L .: If you notice that the new collection does not really fit into the trends, will you try to adjust it?
A .: Absolutely not. The primary thing is the woman and what suits her. For example, next year's wedding trends include the woman in pants – blazer and pants, fancy lace tops with pants… I'll stick with dresses.
L. : Tell me how the creation of an outfit for a specific woman goes! See a woman and understand what suits her, what better reveals her individuality?
A .: At first we express her wishes, then there is some time to think, then I offer my ideas.

Brides who come to me know that it will be daring - drapes, feathers, crystals.

Dare to be different, transform your outfit, being different in one outfit during the day. There are brides who choose to spend the second day in the same dress. Turn it inside out and it's completely different.

L. : Where do you find inspiration?
A .: I am inspired by perfumes. An early morning smell, like six in the morning in the woods or walking down the street, from all the dust, the hustle and bustle of the city, all that urbanism. In general, it can be anything, but it must come from nature, the surrounding environment.
L .: Can you describe the woman who will feel best in your dress?
A .: It is a woman who wants to dare and wants something more than the usual, classic dress. She likes needlework, but not in its usual form, but integrated with embroidery, a fancy collar, a huge feather skirt, which, when removed, is a completely different dress. When this woman enters the room, those around her will definitely notice her.
L. : Do you like to wear your own outfits?
A .: Yes, the one I'm wearing now is a classic linen dress from last year's collection, the so-called Audrey Hepburn style. It is from Little Black Evening Dress Topic. By the way, I collect little black evening dresses. And it should be like that in summer too. Purse, of course, with embroidery.
L. : And the fancy dresses? Do you wear them too?
A. : Yes, those too. People pay attention, come up, want to feel, to see.
L. : Are there people from whom you are inspired in creating fashion? Maybe fashionistas, actresses?
A .: I like John Galliano. But or actresses… I'd say it's more nature though. Nature and perfumes.
L .: You can also feel nature in the clothes themselves, right?
A .: Yes, they are flowers.
L .: And stones?
A .: Latvians used to braid wreaths. As a child, at my grandmother's house, I liked to pick pearls from them. I said that I will grow up, I will be a daughter of the nation. Since those days, I love rocks.
L .: Do all brides, when they come to you, understand what dress they will go home with? Aware that it will be bright and eye-catching?

A .: 90 percent know what they are coming to. But there have also been women who come and then say: "What am I doing here..." But they leave just as happy. In the showroom, I let you try on different silhouettes at first. It has also happened that the bride and her girlfriends come, and those girls go home with something new.
L. : Wedding dresses are usually sewn in white or other colors?
A .: I haven't had a classic white tone, at least this year. There is more ivory, this summer there were also blue, blue-green, beige tones.
L .: This season the blue color for wedding dresses is in fashion. Is that why brides chose this color?
A .: For one bride, for example, we matched the color to the wedding theme. The topic was about rocks washed up by the sea. They are such a matte, blue-green. But about whether in general blue is deliberately chosen because of relevance... Women generally like blue-green shades, they are also used a lot in evening dresses.
L .: What about metallic tones?
A .: I haven't had to wear wedding dresses yet. But is in my wearable collection.
L. : Would you like to try on wedding dresses as well?
A. : Gladly! Because metal, space, will be very relevant in winter.
L. : And in black?
A .: Why not!

L. : How much do your wedding dresses cost?
A. : Starting from 300 eur. Strictly it is not, it can also be a little cheaper. It depends on the material, the work invested, the period of time, also on how many applications have been made.
L. : How long does it take to sew one wedding dress?
A .: Very different. An average complicated wedding dress could take two months, no less. Two to three months.
L .: Are you married yourself?
A. : Unmarried.
L .: What will your dress be?
A. : I will be guided by the feelings of the moment.
