Wedding organizer Dagnia Libane / Sparkling points out that the first thing to understand is that no place is perfect. Each venue will have its pros and cons. And most likely, if the decorator is satisfied with everything, then the photographer or someone else involved will not like something.
However, the biggest and most important question is and remains - what do you like and need?
Dagnia Libane recommends starting with the answer to the question where you intend to have your wedding ceremony. When choosing a place for the celebration, it should be a maximum of 1-1.5 hours away from the ceremony place, so that the newlyweds and guests do not get tired of excessively long journeys.
The next question - does the specific wedding venue correspond to the intended number of guests and the format of the evening? Namely, will it be possible to place the tables in the arrangement you want at the place of celebration, or is the hall big enough to accommodate musicians and dances, a buffet, a sweets table, a gift table and other ideas envisaged by the new couple or the decorator. Also, if the dance will take place in the same hall where the festive tables are arranged, it should be understood whether it will be too loud and whether it will be possible to have a conversation in the hall.
If you are planning a two-day wedding, then you should definitely look for an answer to the question, what are the accommodation options at the particular place of celebration. Wedding organizer Dagnija Lībane points out that there are not many places in Latvia where a large number of guests can sleep in separate rooms, so it is necessary to understand whether the guests would feel comfortable if they had to share apartments. This especially applies to foreign guests, who are not always acceptable - they should definitely be warned in advance about such a possibility.
If the celebration venue provides catering, then you must answer the question whether you are satisfied with the menu offer, style, level, quality of service. Dagnia Libane has observed that this is especially important for those couples who practice, so to speak, a high culture of meals on a daily basis and for whom every detail that will be on the table is important.
One of the most important aspects when choosing a place of celebration is mutual communication with the place of celebration itself - does the couple feel welcome there, is the staff responsive and welcoming?
When going to see the intended celebration place, you must pay special attention to the surroundings. You need to find out where the guests' cars will be parked, whether the venue is near the water (if there are many children at the wedding, you should pay more attention to this), what is the road to the venue itself.
This is one of those questions that couples often forget to find out, assuming that the specified amount of rent for the venue includes everything they need.
However, Dagnija Libane invites you to ask the place of celebration about possible additional costs, including, for example, whether you have to pay for the use of separate rooms, the yard, even the lawn. Also, how can the furniture be handled, is it allowed to be used, are there any rules regarding 'cork money'?
You should also definitely ask if there will be someone at the place of celebration who can help solve technical issues (for example, if problems suddenly arise with water supply, electricity or sewage).
Of course, this is often one of the most important aspects with which couples begin to consider their choices. You should ask how much the chosen venue costs and whether this amount fits into your planned wedding budget. Also, if you want to reduce the wedding budget as much as possible, it is important to understand how much the particular room will need to be decorated. "There are rooms that are already aesthetic in themselves, and thus require less involvement of the decorator. However, when talking about decorations, another important aspect is whether the planned decorations and style will suit the specific place. Respectively, it might be strange to create a bit of rustic chic in a luxurious interior, therefore, when looking for a place for a wedding celebration, you should already understand the approximate wedding style," says Dagnia Libane.
Maybe little things, which in the specific situation are not so big things anymore, namely, can you put decorations on the walls of the room, fix different lamps on the ceiling, will there be vases to put the donated flowers at the place of the celebration?
Respectively, it is necessary to find out not only what is allowed to be done at the place of celebration, but also what is not allowed. You should also ask what time you need to check out the next morning, and is it possible to stay a little longer than the planned time?
