It should not be postponed until the very last moment, because, as is known, the application for marriage registration must be submitted no later than 30 days before the planned event.

The application must be completed at least 30 days before the wedding ceremony

In order to register the marriage in the registry office, the couple must prepare an application, which can be done not only in person, but also electronically, if both the bride and the groom use an e-signature. The marriage is concluded no earlier than one month and no later than six months after the submission of the application and other documents necessary for the conclusion of the marriage to the registry office. Therefore, if you want to get married on a certain date, which is only a year from now, writing an application to the registry office today is irrelevant. If there is concern that the desired date will be taken, it remains to calculate half a year in the calendar until the observed day and then apply to the registry office.

Since in Latvia marriages can be officially concluded in churches of several denominations, if you choose this option, you should go to the specific church, because the churches do not offer submission of electronic documents.

The application must be delivered to where you plan to get married

In this case, everyone must keep their surname during the marriage, but later, after the trip, you can go to the registry office and write an application for a surname change. True, in this case it will be a relatively longer procedure, and you will also have to pay a state fee for changing the surname.
