DECORATIVE ELEMENT AT WEDDINGS – NON-TRADITIONAL WEDDING

Lately, in various wedding pictures, we have been noticing more and more decoration elements - wigwams. Pinterest also offers countless images where this element dominates. LĪGAVĀM tried to understand and find out why wigwams have become so popular and where they are best used at weddings.

Baiba Prindule-Rence: People are still afraid of unusual shapes

Decorator Baiba Prindule-Rence states that making wigwams is not that complicated. Pinterest even has step-by-step tips on how to build your own dream wigwam.

"I myself have two wigwams. Wigwams became more popular with the advent of Pinterest and are mostly used in boho-style weddings, where elements such as rugs are also used.

Personally, I really like wigwams and the triangular shape in general. Of course, I have heard different reviews about the triangular shape as such, but also in my own wedding, apparently unplanned, the triangular shape dominated.

As a Latvian, I associate triangles with ancient signs, the feeling of home, the beginning of a family.

This appeals to me as a decorator, and I hope that in the future there will be couples who will also agree to use triangular arches in their weddings. For now, relatively speaking, people are afraid of alien forms. That is why, mostly in weddings where I use wigwams as decorations, they are not coordinated with the couple themselves," says Baiba Prindule-Rence. She says that wigwams can be used in different ways:

  • as an element of the wedding ceremony;
  • as decoration at the place of celebration;
  • as a children's corner.

"I have also used wigwams as a photo corner decoration in the reception area. My own wigwam is four meters high, so it looks impressive.

There is also a smaller wigwam that I tend to use for a children's corner. For children, it is like a kind of headquarters, so it serves rational reasons. But I think that in general there is no rational reason why a bride would choose a wigwam for her wedding," says Baiba.

She also points out that it is becoming increasingly popular in the world to introduce a little more wildness to weddings, using different skins, horns, skulls. "In Latvia, of course, this is not relevant yet, because society in general still has various prejudices against it.

As a decorator, of course, I like weddings where there is much more than flower bouquets and candlesticks, but in general, I must say that this is a great season for wedding decoration," admits Baiba Prindule-Rence.

Wigwams as an alternative to the photo corner

Wedding decorator Iluta Piternika / MintDeco indicates that wigwams are still much more popular in the world than in Latvia.

"Wigwams are definitely suitable for special couples. Those who want something more original and unusual for their wedding.

It must be a wedding with a special mood, because it would hardly look so impressive in a wedding with white satin draperies. After all, the wigwam should not be separated from the overall stylistics of the wedding," says Iluta Piternika. She also points out that wigwams are also appreciated from the point of view of costs - a wooden wigwam at the ceremony site will certainly cost much less than a gorgeous arch made of flowers.

"Wigwams are also a great alternative to the traditional surprise photo booth, which is often arranged by ushers. If the couple is attractive, a bit wild and dreams of a boho style wedding, then it will be a pleasant surprise for them. Wigwams look especially good in forests and on the seashore, where there is the right atmosphere around. Also, we used the wigwam in michos, which gives the traditional ritual an even more special atmosphere," so Iluta Piternika.
