HOW AND WHERE TO CHOOSE FLOWERS FOR WEDDING?

HOW AND WHERE TO CHOOSE FLOWERS FOR WEDDING?

We always associate flowers with holidays. They create a special mood that we perceive through our senses and are a part of an event that forms our memories.  Even if there is no holiday and there are only flowers on the table at home, it creates its own mood in both colors and scents. The wedding day can also be remembered with the scent of a special flower.

When preparing for the holiday and visualizing it, flowers will definitely dominate both decorations and clothing.

We decorate the wedding car with them, put them next to candlesticks, add them to table cards, put them in the pocket of the groom's suit, decorate the bride's hair and, of course, put them in vases and make the bride's bouquet. Whether one flower or a composition will be preferred in the wedding decorations should be chosen by the young couple themselves, but in order not to get lost in the huge selection, we asked an expert's opinion.

When organizing your wedding and looking for information on a specific topic, advice on seasonality of flowers will definitely come in handy. In which month, which flowers grow and can be bought. Which flowers to look for in the garden and which are relevant in nature every month.

APRIL

In nature, in meadows, there are branches that can be plucked. Of course, it depends on the air temperature and every year the time when they can be harvested can be different, but starting from April, it can already be done. First grass, sedums and vizbulites, violets, early varieties of daffodils. They are the first spring flowers.  If you want to decorate your wedding with natural gifts, then mint and moss are already available in the forest. The first bulb flowers - tulips, the first widows - are already appearing in gardens and nurseries. In nature, April is still quite bare, in the bases it is already different and the assortment is larger.

MAY

The trees and branches have already blossomed. In May, lilies of the valley bloom. They have a strong and wonderful smell. In the gardens, there are still violets, tulips, muscaras or pearl hyacinths, daffodils, including the fragrant poet's daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, irises, freesias. At the end of May, lilacs already appear, but they wither quite quickly. Rhododendrons. At full ripeness there are plum branches, apple blossoms.

JUNE

The beginning of summer and nature surprises. In the gardens, there are peonies, first roses, anemones, viburnum, a shrub similar to lilac. The bush itself comes from the Netherlands, but it is increasingly grown in Latvia as well.  Jasmine also blooms around the horses. Irises appear. In the meadow - daisies, cornflowers, poppies, sedges, madaras. Birches, oaks - tree branches. They can be used both as bases and to bend and form shapes. An important nuance should be taken into account - meadow flowers should be cut early in the morning or late in the evening, then the flower will stay fresh longer.

JULY

From the end of June, lilies, gerberas, roses, garden delphiniums, marigolds, garden daisies, lavender bloom. Lobelia both hanging and vertical, memesia, verbena, petunias, pelargoniums, small alices - potted flowers that can be placed in compositions or they can serve as room and garden decoration. Flower peas. Summer green bushes - sedge. Different varieties, different types. After winter, the wealth of the meadow is already diminishing, but the flowers of the gardens and greenhouses tingle to bloom and smell. Summer green bushes - sedge. Different varieties, different types.

AUGUST

A very rich and colorful month. Dahlias - both big and small. Asters - both with round and pointed petals. In nature, small-flowered carnations, amaranth, agerat - they are beautiful to add to compositions. Stuffed begonias, calibrahoyas - create a rich impression, decorative garlic. Gladioli, astilbe. Hydrangeas - start to bloom already in June and bloom until September. The bush is large and therefore suitable for large rooms or outdoor decorations.

Roses bloom all summer. Samtene. It is tasteful and interesting to add sage flowers, rudbeckia, echinacea, mint in compositions, decorations and bouquets.  Even though they are considered medicinal plants, their flowers and fragrance are definitely suitable for wedding decorations.  Cereals, steppe leagues. It looks like a spike with fluffy ends. It flutters in the wind and looks really beautiful in compositions. Sand.

SEPTEMBER

Martinis, still dahlias, asters, mountain ash. Gladiolus – you can use not only gladiolus stems, but only flowers. Add them to napkins or put them in containers with water, which creates an interesting composition. Flocks. Heather. The most common spireas are summer green bushes. It begins to bloom already in summer. Those who use the branches of bushes should expect that they will have to cut quite a lot to make the composition look richer, but the benefit is that it will not harm the bush itself, on the contrary, we will probably expect another flowering.

OCTOBER

Chrysanthemums and, considering what the weather has been like, everything that is still blooming from summer and September. Of course, colorful leaves can be added to autumn decorations, but cut flowers can no longer be found in gardens and meadows, but in shops, bases and at flower growers.

  • In order for lilacs to be stored longer, their water needs acidity / alkalinity. Several flowers prefer warm water, but there are also flowers that are better kept even in hot water.  The same lilac and roses love hot water. However, all bulbs should be kept in cold water.
  • When thinking about the flowers we will use, we must also think about the container / vase in which we will place our flower decorations. The container can contain earth, warm, cold water, stones, moss. It is important to know where we will place it so that it is stable and does not interfere.
  • When using bush flowers, you should not be afraid to combine them with cut flowers or sedges.

Let it flourish and smell!
