KRISTINE KOMAROVSKA: THERE MUST BE A POSITIVE VIBRATION BETWEEN THE COUPLE AND THE WEDDING OFficiant

Kristīne Komarovska is a journalist, TV personality and host of various events, including weddings. She is one of the few wedding leaders in Latvia who can also lead weddings in French, which is why she is no stranger to the concept of international weddings. LĪGAVĀM invited Kristini to a conversation about wedding management and how to find the right wedding manager for a couple.

Various opinions have been heard about a woman as a wedding leader, for example, that they are not as attractive as men when leading a wedding. What do you think it means to be a female wedding leader in Latvia?

In Latvia, we can observe that weddings are more often presided over by men - it just happened that way. This is often due to the fact that these particular men are actors, radio and TV personalities, and people would love to meet them or even want to see them in their circle of friends. It must be said that women are the ones who are more involved in organizing weddings. And most often also those who have the last word about the leader of the wedding, so it is natural that the wedding is more led by men. But why one or another manager is chosen depends on several reasons. My biggest bonus is my knowledge of languages, and I think I am also perfectly able to adapt to different situations. As well as feeling the atmosphere and the ability to understand the wishes of the young couple and to manage the various situations that can occur at a wedding.

You used to be heard on the radio, now you can be seen on the TV screen, but how and when did your interest in managing various events, including weddings, begin?

Already during my school days I managed all the events, I also organized most of them myself. Both then and now, managing both small and large corporate events and weddings in a larger or smaller circle, I am fascinated by people's joy and togetherness. I like to see how emotions change, how a person opens up and changes in the course of one evening, his mood - this is my challenge and, if everything works out - the greatest satisfaction.

I like to create an atmosphere, I like people to relax, forget and enjoy the moment, or on the contrary – connect to a specific event, development and enjoy it.

Your advantage in leading a wedding is definitely your knowledge of languages. You may be one of the few wedding leaders who also conduct weddings in French. What are the biggest challenges of conducting an international wedding?

The challenge is definitely to keep the attention of everyone who does not understand the second language. Also, sometimes you have to find a way to be able to tell everything in one sentence in three languages with humor. Sometimes events and traditions have to be explained. There was a wedding where non-nationals made a little fun of the Latvian ritual - michošana, and then I had to stand and whisper, telling them how important it is to us and what the symbolic meaning of this event is, so as not to completely spoil the moment.

Who do you think is an excellent wedding officiant and how can a couple find their right wedding officiant? The offer is quite wide at the moment...

In my opinion, either there is an emotional spark between people or there is not. When you meet the person who will lead your wedding, there should be a positive vibe, if there is - then there is!

Have you had any interesting, curious, peculiar situations happen to you while leading a wedding that had to be resolved?

Every now and then there are some jokes or something that doesn't seem good at first, but in the end everything has always turned out very well. I have cried at a wedding from emotion only once - this summer. In conclusion, I would like to say that the couple should figure out for themselves what kind of wedding they want - one where they enjoy themselves with friends and relatives whom they have invited, or one where they spend more time together - taking pictures, going out, etc. You have to choose the most suitable scenario for your wishes - so that the guests do not wait too long and so that when the couple "returns" often after quite many hours of intense absence, they do not feel like they are in a cage, because everyone wants to eat, dance, sing and rejoice with them, while the young couple's own strength is exhausted.
