Although it has long been a church tradition - couples who have decided to get married in the church undergo pre-marital training, however, increasingly, churches throughout Latvia offer not only mandatory initiation training courses, but also various pre-marital seminars and training, which can be attended by anyone interested, regardless of whether the couple has decided to get married in the church.

Several times a year Riga Lutheran congregation in Torņkaln organizes a four-class seminar "What is happening in our relationship?" for couples who want to get married or who have faced relationship challenges and trials. The classes are designed for those who want to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of their relationships.

The pre-marriage course of the Old St. Gertrude Lutheran Church located in the center of Riga will start in April, offering couples five consecutive Wednesday evenings to lay the foundations for a strong marriage.
