PHOTOGRAPHER MICK SHELL ADVISES: HOW TO GET GREAT WEDDING PHOTOS?

Much has been said about this topic, but it is a constant value - the desire for the most beautiful wedding photos. Undoubtedly, in an age when we get inspiration from Pinterest and look at the beautiful wedding pictures on the profiles of TOP wedding photographers Instagram , expectations are very high. However, hiring an excellent photographer is only part of the key to success - the couple themselves must also put their hand in and, above all, want the pictures to turn out really great.

Wedding photographer Miks Šēls shares his tips on what to do so that wedding photos turn out as beautiful as expected.

TRUST

One of the most important prerequisites for great wedding pictures is the young couple's trust in the photographer. "I really appreciate it when couples trust me and let me do what I set out to do, knowing that everything will be fine. Then the end result is also great.

It is much easier for people to trust a photographer if they have previously studied the photographer's portfolio and his previous works - then they calculate what they can expect from the photographer, and it is unlikely that when they receive the pictures, they will want the color tonality of the pictures to be changed, for example, says Miks Šēls, saying that there have been such cases.

WHAT COLOR DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR WEDDING?

In order not to be disappointed in your wedding photos, it is also important to understand what you want. Therefore, when choosing your wedding photographer, you should understand both the style and the mood you want to see in the photos. "Each photographer has his own color, and when choosing a photographer, you should feel which of these colors will suit the couple best," admits Miks Šēls.

MORNING EVENING WITH GIRLFRIENDS

The pictures of the wedding morning shower have already become a beautiful tradition in the common wedding album. Miks Šēls points out that one of the biggest mistakes that brides tend to make is the desire to create a luxury hotel room in their apartment. In that case, you can exaggerate the elements of the decorations, and it will be visible in the pictures, so it will look unnatural.

"I believe that on the morning of the wedding, at least the closest friends, the mother or the bride, special people, should participate. If there is no one except the make-up artist, then there will be no emotions to capture in the pictures," says Miks Šēls.

NO – FOR DIRECT SUNLIGHT

One of the things that the photographer must also trust is about (not) taking photos in the sun. If possible, the Miks Šēls tends not to shoot in direct sunlight, as it changes the color of a person's skin in pictures and creates sleepy face grimaces. "If the photographer once insists that, for example, the group photo of the guests should be in the shadows, then you need to trust him in this matter," says Miks Šēls.

WRONG TIME PLANNING

Another of the most typical mistakes that couples or ushers tend to make when organizing a wedding is to allocate too much or, on the contrary, too little time for a couple's photo session. "The optimal time for a photo session would be half an hour in one place.

You should not tire the couple too much, because the wedding day is long with many activities and emotions. I would advise the conductors to coordinate the wedding day with the couple themselves, leaving small elements of surprises.

One of the prerequisites for good photographs is that there is no one else around to influence the mood, so it would be necessary to have at least half an hour on the wedding day when the couple and the photographer are alone, with no other people around," suggests Miks.

NATURAL LIGHTING

However, it is best to organize a wedding photo session in natural light, not indoors - in museums, palaces, where there might be other people around. Also, natural lighting will look much better in pictures than artificial lighting.

AT THE PLACE OF THE CELEBRATION 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE COUPLE THEMSELVES

When planning the course of the wedding day, it must be planned so that the photographer can arrive at the place of celebration at least 15 minutes before the couple to photograph the beautiful decorations and general views. Miks Šēls believes that this is actually very important for couples, because often these details tend to pass them by on the wedding day, but then, when flipping through the wedding photos, they can see again how everything looked.

CANDLE LIGHT INSTEAD OF A FLASHLIGHT

In order for the wedding photos to be successful, from the point of view of decorations, Miks recommends placing as many candles as possible on the celebration tables. In this way, lighting will be provided throughout the evening, no flash will be used and the right mood will be created for the photos themselves.
