The age-old question that wedding guests around the world keep asking is what to give the new couple on their wedding day?
The financial contribution to the start of a new couple's life together is, of course, often the best gift at their wedding. Although this can make it much easier to think about what to give to the new couple, it can also cause some discomfort for many guests, that is, the fact that the new couple will know how much each guest thinks it is necessary to give as a gift could upset some guests.
"The principle is very popular in the world, when the new couple opens an account in a store, for example Harrods , and the guests can deposit the amount of money allocated for the gift into this account at their discretion.
The young couple will not know how much each guest has counted, but then the specific amount is transformed into a gift card, which the bride and groom can use as they see fit, buying everything they need," says Alise Kolosova. Although such services are not yet popular in Latvia, shopkeepers should consider implementing such a service in practice.
Of course, registering gifts is still popular in the world, and the practice is starting to become popular in Latvia as well. In this case, the couple goes to a pre-selected store and marks everything they are interested in and would like to receive as a gift, and the wedding guests can then choose what to buy and give as a gift.
If the new couple does not want to receive individual gifts or congratulations in envelopes, then you can think about a valuable and lasting gift in advance, which the wedding guests can also participate in providing. Alice Kolosova in such a case recommends, for example, finding an artist who would paint a portrait of the couple at a high-quality level.
"At a wedding in Italy this fall, a couple chose just such an option. We found an artist from the USA who creates very high-quality paintings, and she will come to Italy and create a unique painting on the spot. It will be a gift from the guests who want to give something to the couple - the guests can invest any amount they want in this gift, including in a specially designated account. If everything for the creation of the painting the required amount will not be collected, the couple will cover the difference," says Alice about the idea of a joint gift.
Although several decades ago, wedding guests mainly gave couples various practical things, which resulted in the couple being able to get two identical mixers in one day, nowadays guests don't have so much "permissiveness" in choosing gifts, but Alice remembers a wedding where the couple invited guests to bring whatever practical gifts they wanted, in a sense as a joke, in order to create a relaxed and fun atmosphere and allow the guests to be completely free express yourself.
"The young couple had insisted that the guests not give gift cards and money, but really practical things. This also unleashed a certain creativity in the guests, as everyone tried to be more and more attractive and come up with unique gift ideas. The end result was many boxes with all kinds of things," remembers Alice.
Undoubtedly, the young couple, once they have invited you to their wedding, will be happy for any gift, but above all for your presence on their special day.
The time spent together is an inalienable value in general, which can also become a great gift for the new couple - a visit to a SPA or restaurant, a cultural event, a short or long trip.
