This summer in cooperation with Dr. Lūkina aesthetic medicine clinic RE.NEW performed procedures to get rid of an unwanted guest - cellulite. After consulting with the master of the clinic and evaluating my individual situation, before starting the body contouring apparatus procedure NuEra Tight, which, by the way, is the only one in Latvia only in this clinic, I received a "referral" from the master to perform three lymphatic drainage procedures first. If everything is in order with the functioning of the lymphatic system, it cleans the body by removing excess fluid. But if it is disturbed, edema, cellulite, and bags under the eyes appear, which is quite a common problem nowadays.

I will tell you how it went for me, what the results are, and what lymphatic drainage actually does.

Why should you start with lymphatic drainage?

I had never performed lymphatic drainage before, but it had already entered my field of knowledge. I had heard very good reviews about its effects on health, as well as regularly heard about the importance of lymphatic drainage from my favorite facial self-massage masters. The fact that this term appeared in my space is another good reminder to listen to your intuition - to study the topic more deeply. And yes, when I went to the first consultation with the responsive master at the RE.NEW clinic about the solution to cellulite, I learned that what I see on my thighs is not only cellulite, but also edema - lymph that is stuck. Therefore, before resorting to anti-cellulite procedures, the lymph should be mobilized in order to restore the body's natural processes and remove metabolic end products and toxins. What is very important - if the lymph is mobilized, then this process, although performed directly on the leg area along its entire length, affects not only the problem area, but the whole body. So we made a schedule of procedures, scheduling lymphatic drainage once a week.

When I arrived for the lymph drainage procedure, I was warmly welcomed, the master answered all my questions knowingly. Which is very nice and useful - even though I'm apparently going to solve the issue of aesthetic beauty, the master's knowledge makes me think deeper - what to change in my lifestyle and what from my daily routines "motivates" cellulite. As the very first call before all the procedures, I was advised to do blood tests to make sure that everything is in order with the thyroid gland and hormones, because there are situations where edema and cellulite are caused by health problems.

How is the procedure in lymph drainage boots?

It is a relaxing, approximately 40-minute long procedure, in which the client lies on a couch, while the legs are in a special device - lymphatic drainage or air boots. The device is used for both cosmetic, therapeutic and preventive purposes, relieving the feeling of heaviness and fatigue in the legs, which is especially relevant for physically demanding and sedentary workers. Basically, it is a machine massage with variable air pressure. The air pressed into the cuffs of the boots, creating gentle and rhythmic pressure waves, performs a massage, improving blood circulation and lymph flow. Lymph drainage prevents the accumulation of fluid between cells, as it activates and accelerates the removal of excess fluid and metabolic end products from the body. There are additional benefits - the procedure tones the skin and improves the functioning of the immune system, as well as reducing the size due to the fact that the body is freed from edema. Since lymphatic drainage boots are not only for aesthetic purposes, but also for medical purposes, it should be noted that there are also contraindications: acute skin inflammations, heart and venous insufficiency, oncology, vein inflammation associated with the formation of blood clots, therefore, before starting the course, consult a doctor and tell the selected master about your health aspects.

How does it feel?

At the first time of the procedure, the feeling seemed unusual and unusual, because the legs are lightly compressed, starting from the toes and moving upwards, but after getting to know the specifics of the operation of the apparatus, I started to enjoy this process and was already looking forward to the next times and really relaxed. After the procedures, I regained the feeling of lightness and also visually see the changes, because the swelling, which until now I had considered a slight increase in body weight, disappeared after the procedures.

When getting rid of cellulite, no matter what type of massage you choose, whether it is lymphatic drainage or manual massage with a scrub or dry brushing, there is a peculiarity that can scare you, but it shows that the process has started and everything is going right - there is a moment when cellulite visually increases. This means that the process is happening, the cellulite "rises out". Therefore, there is no need to be afraid, but to be glad that the process is taking place, and to continue moving forward purposefully!
