A new production of Peter Tchaikovsky's opera "Eugene Onegins" by actress and director Rēzija Kalniņa is taking place at the Latvian National Opera.

The musical director of the production is Ainārs Rubiķis, the conductor is Jānis Liepiņš, the scenographer Mihails Kramenko, the costumes will be made by the fashion brand "Amoralle", the movement director is Ilze Zīriņa, the lighting designer is Sergejs Skornieckis.

The title role will be interpreted by Jānis Apeinis or Rihards Macanovskis, Tatjana will be Dana Bramane or Evija Martinsone, Lenski – Raimonds Bramanis, Mihails Čulpajevs or Juris Jope, Olga – Oksana Volkova or Laura Grecka, Gremins – Krišjānis Norvelis or Roman Polisadovs, Larina – Kristīne Zadovska or Aira Rūrāne, Nanny – Ilona Bagele or Anžella Elm.

"Why is it so difficult, unbearable for a person without love and why is it so difficult to love? What is love? What do we each define when we say this word? What do we hide behind the word love? What creates ideas about what love should be? How should it be expressed? What is right or according to the idea of each of us. Tatiana lives in every person - a soul that craves love. Only the "object of love" we choose in life does not always correspond to our illusions. Why does love hurt? Maybe because the presence of death or nothingness is always felt?" questions are asked by Rēzija Kalniņa.
