RAIN AND WEDDINGS

RAIN AT THE WEDDING REQUIRES PLAN “B”!

Although Latvian summer weather has always been unpredictable, this summer we are experiencing rain especially often. Unpredictable weather undoubtedly causes worries and headaches both for the couples themselves and for the wedding organizers. Planning an outdoor summer wedding requires both the power of positive thinking and developing a Plan B. You cannot do without one of these two elements - convinced wedding organizer Dagnija Libane / Sparkling .

Several variants of “B” plans

Wedding organizer Dagnia Libane states that there must be a "B" plan in those cases when important wedding events are planned outdoors - wedding ceremony, celebration, photo session, time to be together after the wedding ceremony. While there should be a “B” plan, they can vary greatly. One of the options is to think early on about building a tent or a roof, where you can take shelter in the event of rain. In this case, couples should expect that the construction of a tent or roof will mean additional costs. In addition, you should think about it in time, because it might be difficult to find a suitable tent too short a time before the wedding. Another option for Plan B is to find a nearby venue that can host a wedding ceremony in the event of rain. It can be the place of the celebration (in this case, all these aspects should be discussed in advance with the decorators and others involved, so that they are also ready for it), or some other place in the immediate vicinity.

"If the couple plans to organize a wedding celebration or ceremony outdoors, plan "B" should be thought of as soon as the approximate wedding concept becomes clear. The weather in Latvia is so unpredictable that you shouldn't rely on the fact that it might not rain. If the couple already knows that rain could ruin their wedding day (also emotionally), then you should probably immediately plan the main events of the wedding day indoors so that there are no unpleasant surprises". Dagnia. If the couple doesn't mind the rain so much and they don't want to hold their wedding anywhere other than the planned place, then another "B" option is to stay where it is planned, but prepare in advance so that, if necessary, umbrellas and sometimes rubber boots can be distributed to all guests.

Musical instruments should not be in the rain

Rain at a wedding doesn't mean only people getting wet, but also decorations and furniture getting wet, so if the wet chairs at the place of the wedding ceremony are to be used at the celebration tables afterwards, it won't be possible. Also, if, for example, live music is planned during the wedding ceremony, then you have to think about that too - no musical instrument should be in the rain, so the musicians will also need some kind of shelter. "This is another risk to think about beforehand and have a plan B. Undoubtedly, the rain is very stressful for wedding planners and officiants. Often the young couple cannot assess the risks and how many aspects have to be weighed in this relationship," Dagnia points out.

Leaders or wedding organizers should definitely think about having transparent umbrellas for the couple during the photo session, as well as rubber boots found in the car - those things will come in handy if you have to wade into a flooded meadow. Wedding photographer Linda Lauva / LINDA LAUVA also agrees with this. "In many weddings where I have been a photographer, it rains - some more and others less. That is why in Latvia, if something is planned outdoors, you have to have a 'B' plan. Although I celebrated my own wedding outdoors without a 'B' plan, I was sure that it would not rain, because as a wedding photographer, taking the best shots, I had collected enough karma points by lying in puddles at other people's weddings", laughing. says Linda. Dagnia also agrees that

the power of thought during wedding preparations is of great importance - there are brides who emphasize that it will not rain at their wedding, and it really is. And even if it rains, they are ready to enjoy the process and not let the weather spoil their wedding day.

Rain will take on a new meaning

Also, wedding photographers usually have a “B” plan for a photo session in very heavy rain. However, couples most often go to the photo session in the rain. Wedding photographer Inta Lankovska / INTA PHOTOGRAPHY / usually encourages couples by saying that even if it rains, it will be beautiful and the rain will take on a new meaning.

"Of course, people are different. There are brides who, under high stress, may not understand that neither the wedding organizer nor the photographer is to blame for the fact that it is raining. Therefore, everything is determined by the attitude of the couple and the guests themselves. There have been weddings where all the guests danced in the rain and were very happy," recalls wedding photographer Linda Lauva.

"B" plan also in high heat and strong wind

Although rain is one of the most common weather conditions this summer, it's not just rain that requires a Plan B. Strong winds (especially if the wedding ceremony is planned by the sea) or high heat also require a backup plan. "Also in such weather, wedding ceremonies often cannot take place outside, so you have to think about plan "B" in any case" , advises Dagnia Libane.
