Photographs are, of course, a necessity for any wedding, but in recent years, even in Latvia, more and more couples choose to capture their special day in a beautiful video story. They show emotions, capture moments and allow you to reminisce about the experience long after. However, some couples still have the idea that videographers are just like directors who follow shoulder to shoulder throughout the wedding day and will cause discomfort to the couple. Marta Login, who created Long Story Short with her brother Tom Aschnewitz, is filming weddings for the fourth season and is convinced that
The key to being a great videographer is to be invisible.
According to Marta, Long Story Short was originally created as a bit of a joke - she, being a photographer, bought a camera with which it is also possible to film, and suggested that her brother also buy one so that they could shoot wedding videos together - which were not very popular in Latvia at that time - as a kind of five-minute short films. The first wedding they filmed was for friends, and an organic reaction followed as the experience accumulated year after year.
"Our couples are most often people who will have their wedding ceremony outdoors, in the forest vintage or rustic , and the celebration part will not take place in classic palaces either.
Our couples are very warm people, which also makes the wedding itself warm," says Marta.
Videos and pictures are the things that remind you of the special day and it is the video that shows you how it looks in real life, including the most beautiful moments, the speeches of your closest friends and loved ones and other moments,
thus, the whole day will be included in one small film in short frames," says Marta.
In order for the wedding video to come together beautifully, the couple themselves must also be involved and be open - convinced Marta. "There have been couples who tell them not to come close, not to film close-ups, but then the couple also has to expect that the video will be as it will be. Of course, the videographers must be invisible.
In our opinion, the best shots are the ones that are not posed.
We also try to respect this during the ceremony - even if the guests see when the couple kisses or when the rings are put on. After all, the wedding day is a day for the new couple and their close people.
We catch moments and don't try to be directors who artificially want to stage something," says Marta.
You can often hear about disagreements between photographers and videographers. When filming, Marta follows the principle that the photographer is the main thing. If time is needed, a separate moment is arranged with the couple when they devote their attention only to the cameramen. "That's why we have never had disagreements with photographers, because we see them as friends and colleagues, not as competitors in the fight for the best shot. We both want one thing - to create beautiful and lasting memories for the couple themselves.
"We love working with couples who are flexible and ready to capture good shots - running out of the party for a 10-minute sunset or wading barefoot in the river,"
so Martha.
The cost of a good wedding video in Latvia is on average from 600-1000 euros. If the price is much lower, then you should definitely consider their portfolio and reviews when choosing a wedding videographer. "Choosing the right videographers is a responsible decision, so that there is harmony between them and the couple, and the couple trusts the videographers both in the process itself and later in the video processing process. In my opinion, the videographers must also be flexible and understand that this is a special and unprecedented day for the couple, which is characterized by both anxiety and emotions," assured Marta.
