"Everything here, everything talks about love and about love and human relations. I think it's a miracle that two strangers become very close at some point, probably the closest people in the world to each other," said the new generation artist Alise Mediņa about the theme of her latest collection of paintings.
One of the sources of inspiration for the artist's artwork is a collection of old postcards obtained in Paris, where lovers can be seen in sepia tones in different angles and situations. In this way, some unknown memories of love have come into the hands of the artist.
"It is often somewhat uncomfortable to express joy, gratitude, appreciation, whereas criticism and dissatisfaction naturally break out in a flood of words. Love paintings mean to me to say thank you to those whose love created me and to those who allow me to feel that I am loved today. In my opinion, love as a phenomenon is unique. And my personal positive experience spanning several generations allows me to talk about this topic without pain. I think that more than once the word love appears as an antonym for the word loneliness, which to a large extent describes the constant state of a modern person," states Mediņa.
Alisa Mediņa managed very well to merge the aesthetics of ancient times with the present, as well as to very sensitively and delicately touch such an intimate and personal topic as love." Alisa's works are so intuitive, and it feels that she is very carefully trying to touch the very fragile topic of "love", which is very personal to each of us. There are no such strict lines in the works that show a clear position, it is more based on moods and atmosphere," says Alma Suhanova, representative of the "Istaba" gallery.
Mediņa graduated from Janis Rozentals Riga Art High School. She obtained a master's degree in painting from the Latvian Academy of Arts. The artist interned at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. She has been participating in exhibitions since 2004.
