Recently, two of the hottest fashion brands, one covering the mass market ( ASOS ), the other bordering on luxury ( Self-Portrait ), have presented their own line of bridal dresses. And in order to devote financial resources to the wedding and/or honeymoon, the offer of both is budget-friendly and gentle.
London-based fashion brand Self-Portrait has conquered the fashion market with a feminine yet progressive aesthetic. For example, in the London luxury department store Selfridges , a brand dress is bought every six minutes, Self-Portrait budget products are not shy to be worn by elite class stars, and even on the red carpet. For this reason alone, similar popularity can be predicted for the brand's new line of wedding dresses. "I had a feeling that the fashion market lacked tasteful, realistic wedding dresses, in which it is possible to feel both feminine and fashionable. I wanted to relieve brides of the stress caused by buying a wedding dress and create outfits that do not require visiting specific, pompous wedding boutiques to buy," explains the brand's designer Han Chong, explaining the reasons for the expansion.
Inspired by the bridal dresses of the 1960s and 1970s, to be more precise – such edgy brides as models Bianca Jagger and Batia Boyd (women who have challenged the norms of conventional wedding dresses on their wedding day), wedding dresses for non-traditional brides have been made.
The six gown designs combine modern silhouettes with vintage elements and details, ranging from fitted, straight-cut gowns to full, pleated and cropped, with or without sheer sleeves, Victorian-style collars or bare shoulders.
However, the colors of the costumes are traditional - in variations from soft cream to bright white. As typical of other Self-Portrait products,
forest gins are mixed with silk, chiffon and organza, and everywhere – special attention is paid to the perfection and delicacy of the details.
"I am very well aware that the bride's dress is one of the most essential elements of the wedding, and therefore perfection cannot be done without," confirms the author.
Han Chong: "I tried to understand the desires of a modern woman and find a balance for them.
Dresses are universal, they combine fine details, functionality and comfort. Wearable both day and night."
This versatility is ensured by the restrained but delicate design and unpretentious forms created without pomp and grandeur. Another element of success is the affordability of the pieces (from 650-1000 British pounds): "Women spend so much money on a dress that can be worn once and that's why Self-Portrait is an outfit that can be worn again and again." Lydia King, buying manager at Selfridges confirms this: "Han Chong has hit the mark again. He has managed to identify his audience and offer them innovative things at affordable prices. This is a collection that has been needed in wedding fashion for a long time."
Dresses can be purchased at Selfridges , Bergof Goodman , Net A Porter and Self-Portrait online store.
